Three Ways to dispose of yard waste

Fall Yard Waste- Leaves

Has your grass vanished underneath a pile of fallen leaves? Are you planning a fall cleanup day before winter hits, but not sure what to do with your yard waste? Check out these three options for disposing of yard waste.

1. Composting Yard Waste

Many people choose to compost yard (and food) waste as a sustainable, easy way to reduce waste. We have an entire blog post dedicated to the importance of composting and four ways to get started. Composting can be as easy as creating a pile for your waste in a corner of your yard. However, it is also easy to find special composting bins to help your waste compost faster. For full information on composting, see Better Homes and Gardens’ article.

2. Putting Yard Waste in your trash container

Just like most other types of waste, you can put yard waste in your normal trash container. However, if you have loose leaves, we strongly recommend you bag them. Otherwise, when your driver dumps your cart or container into the truck, the wind may catch the leaves and blow them back into your yard. We don’t want all your hard leaf-raking to go to waste! *pun intended

3. Renting a larger trash container for yard Waste

Is your yard cleanup project bigger than just a few bags of leaves? If so, your best option might be to rent a temporary commercial-sized container (picture below). This is a great option for small branches, twigs, large piles of leaves, etc. Note that it does have a load height of four feet, so all items will need to be lifted into the container.
