Need a large dumpster for your next cleanup project? If you’re starting on a cleanup project, whether it’s a home renovation, construction project, or a general decluttering, you’ll often end up with a substantial amount of waste. Renting a roll off dumpster is a great solution, but before you finalize your order, stop to ask several questions to make sure a roll off dumpster is the best fit for you.
1. What Type of Waste Do I Have?
Understanding what type of waste you have is the first step in the dumpster rental process. Different dumpsters are designed for specific materials. For most general household items or cleanup, a regular roll off works well. However, for specific types of waste like rock, dirt, shingles, or concrete waste, you’ll need a special type of roll off.
Additionally, some items are prohibited at different landfills or disposal sites. Most landfills have limits or restrictions on appliances, tires, or household hazardous waste like wet paints, chemicals, cleaners, etc. Many landfills also have requirements about keeping materials like construction/demolition, household waste, and yard waste separate.
If you have any questions about your waste, call your local waste management company or landfill. Nisly Brothers’ office number is 620-662-6561.
2. What is my Budget for This Project?
Roll off dumpsters are often more expensive than people anticipate. Factors like delivery location, size of dumpster, length of rental, disposal costs, etc. all affect the price of getting a roll off delivered and removed.
Disposal costs can be tricky to calculate. Many landfills or disposal sites have different costs for different materials. Often household waste is less expensive than construction or demolition materials. Ask your roll off company about potential disposal costs.
3. What Size Roll Off Should I Get?
Roll off dumpsters come in various sizes, typically measured in cubic yards. Choosing the appropriate size depends on a balance between the amount of waste you have. It is easy to underestimate the amount of waste your project will generate. At Nisly Brothers we have regular roll offs in 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard sizes.
- 20 cubic yard: 22 feet long, 4 feet high, 8 feet wide- usually holds up to 3 tons
- 30 cubic yard: 22 feet long, 6 feet high, 8 feet wide- usually holds up to 4 tons
- 40 cubic yard: 22 feet long, 8 feet high, 8 feet wide- usually holds up to 5 tons
Generally, the price difference between sizes isn’t large. If you are unsure about which size you need, it is better to size up rather than paying to have another dumpster delivered.
4. How Long Will My Clean Up Project Take?
Consider the duration of your clean-up project when ordering a roll-off dumpster. Rental periods vary and depending on your agreement with the roll off company, there may be additional charges for extra rental. At Nisly Brothers, the price for the roll off includes a week of rental with a daily rental charge after the initial week. We recommend planning your project timeline carefully, accounting for potential delays or changes, and choose a rental period that provides a buffer for unforeseen circumstances.
If your project will take place over a number of days or weeks, you will most likely accrue significant rental charges. Depending on your project, you may want to consider ordering extra pickups on your current trash container or storing your junk materials until the end of the project.
5. Where Do I Want the Roll Off Placed?
The location of your roll off dumpster impacts the efficiency of your cleanup project. You will want the dumpster in a place that allows for safe and easy loading. The dumpster also has a swinging door that swings out an additional 8 feet.
You will also need to consider a location that is easily accessible for the delivery truck. Consider potential obstacles or clearance issues that might affect the dumpster placement. Be prepared to give clear instructions when you order the dumpster or be on site when the roll off is delivered.
6. When Do I Want the Dumpster Delivered?
Many people get help from others for their big cleanup projects, and if you’re scheduling help from friends or family, you most likely have a specific time frame. Determine ahead of time the specific date or timeframe for the dumpster delivery that aligns with your project schedule. This ensures that the dumpster is available when you need it, avoiding any delays in the commencement of your clean-up efforts.
If you know about your project well in advance, it is a great idea to reserve or order the dumpster far in advance, making sure you are the first priority for delivery timeframe. However, at Nisly Brothers, we guarantee next-day delivery and often can deliver same-day as well.
Taking the time to think through these questions makes the roll off ordering process much easier for you. When you are ready to get a quote or place your order, you can call your local trash service company. In addition, at Nisly Brothers, we have an option for online service set up as well. It’s quick, easy, and you can place an order at any time of the day or night. If you have more questions or specialized requests, please feel free to call or text us at (620) 662-6561.
