Twenty years ago, David Yoder saw the need for an easy way to raise chickens. In 2004, he built his first chicken tractor, the Egg Cart’n Classic model. Since then, he’s made a lot of improvements to make assembly and shipping easier.
When David was ready to retire, he did not want his vision to end with his retirement. Harry Shenk bought the business, and it is now known as Homestead Innovations. Homestead Innovations is a family business, with Harry and several of his children running it.
Free-range chickens are great, but there are some drawbacks: chicken manure everywhere, the danger of predators, the annoyance to the neighbors, and the damage to the landscaping. The Egg Cart’n chicken tractor gives you the benefit of free-range chickens without the drawbacks. It features an EZ-Lift System for easy movement. It raises onto four wheels, latches in place, and rolls easily over grass. This allows you to move the chickens to fresh grass every day, wherever is convenient for you. It also has nest boxes for a convenient place to gather eggs, a roost, feed and watering bucket, and a sliding gate that allows you to let your chickens have access to your yard.
The Classic Egg Cart’n holds anywhere from 8-10 chickens. If you want an upgrade , you can get the Chalet model, which adds some additional space and an elegant design. If the regular Egg Cart’n is too big, there is also a Mini model, which holds 4-5 chickens. Homestead is also hoping to add a larger model in the next couple of years.
Homestead Innovations also offers Wheel Lift Kits. This allows you to easily add wheels to any chicken coop or tractor.
