Responsibility
March 2026 Character Core
Merriam Webster states that responsibility is a “moral, legal, or mental accountability.” It is owning up to what is required of us and doing what is required of us. It is a very important part of day-to-day life. People who are not responsible cause stress for those around them and create more work for everyone else.
Here are 5 ways to be responsible:
1. Keep Your Promises
Follow through on commitments and do what you say you’ll do. Reliability builds trust.
2. Own Your Actions
Accept responsibility for your choices, including mistakes. Avoid blaming others.
3. Manage Your Time Well
Be punctual, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks. Responsible people plan ahead.
4. Take Care of Your Belongings and Space
Maintain your personal items, clean up after yourself, and respect shared spaces.
5. Think Before You Act
Consider the consequences of your actions on yourself and others before making decisions.
Putting all of these things into practice will help us grow in responsibility. As Abraham Lincoln said, “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”
