Humility
March 2023 Character Core
Humility rarely comes naturally. A project exceeding expectations, a promotion that came after hard work and dedication, and a successful endeavor that brought about the recognition deserved. In each of these circumstances, the praise or positive result was hard-earned. Becoming proud and overly reliant on your own abilities is an easy trap to fall into, especially if everything seems to be going smoothly. When you choose humility, it improves the relationships you have with others and your ability to work in harmony with your co-workers.
Practicing humility can be difficult, but it can be put into practice in a few different ways. You can show humility by:
· Not getting offended if you don’t receive credit.
· Being willing to encourage others.
· Valuing kindness and respect toward those around you.
· Cultivating trust and authenticity.
· Expressing your joy when others around you succeed.
· Being grateful for what you have been given.
· Not needing to always be right or the most knowledgeable.
· Taking responsibility for your actions and acknowledging if you were wrong.
· Valuing the input of others, listening well, and being willing to change if needed.
