If someone brings up the word “flexibility”, the image that may come to mind is a gymnast or ballerina contorting their bodies in ways that would break a normal person’s back and legs. What they do on a day-to-day basis seems impossible and superhuman. However, sometimes being flexible in our minds and attitudes may seem just as hard or impossible to do. It is very important to be flexible to change in our lives. Being inflexible makes us and the people around us miserable.

Below are some ways to practice flexibility:

  1. Consider alternate options.
  2. Start making small changes.
  3. Try new experiences.
  4. Meet new people.
  5. Look for opportunities.
  6. Challenge your way of thinking.
  7. Maintain a positive attitude.

Becoming more mentally flexible is not something that can change overnight. It takes time and perseverance. In the end, though, it is worth it. It will make us better employees, friends, and neighbors.
