FAQs About Our Waste Management Services

Do I need to use a Nisly Brothers container?

Yes, trash needs to be in specific Nisly containers in order for the trucks to dump the containers efficiently. We can not service customer-owned containers because they do not fit our trucks, and our containers are color coded to identify the contents. Nisly Brothers Inc. provides specific containers, either plastic poly carts or metal commercial-sized containers, in which you can put your trash or recyclables. Rental for these containers is included in your monthly service fees. If you have a lot of extra trash on a regular basis, we encourage upgrading to an additional cart or a larger container.

What types of trash can I throw away?

Most types of trash can be thrown away, although different landfill requirements vary as to what a landfill will accept. Most landfills require that items like appliances, brush, compost, construction trash, tires, and household hazardous waste be taken to the landfill separately, rather than put out with regular trash. For more information, feel free to call our office or your local landfill.

Do I need to have my trash in bags?

In many areas, local laws require trash to be bagged. However, even if it is not required, we encourage bagging trash for several different reasons.

  1. It helps keep your cart clean and reduces odor.
  2. It minimizes the possibility of trash blowing on windy days.
  3. It is easier and more efficient for the driver to pick up.
  4. And, it is easier for you, the customer, to carry trash out to the container.

Can I throw away yard debris?

In some areas, yard waste is not allowed to be placed with trash. We encourage composting yard waste in order to keep it out of your local landfill. In some areas, you can burn yard debris. Many cities have burn sites or composting locations where you can take yard waste.  We encourage looking for someone local in your area who can compost it.

How can I get rid of bulky items like a mattress or appliances?

Large bulky items like a couch or mattress can be taken at no extra charge if we can pick it up when we service your trash. In some cases, we may need to specifically schedule a bulky pickup since not all trucks can remove large items.

Once a month, we pickup stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, AC units, and large metal items. In some areas, there may be an additional charge. Call us today for more details, and to find out when you can schedule an appliance pickup. Do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or if you want to verify your pickup.

Do you have recycling services?

We offer recycling services in many of our areas. These areas are constantly expanding, so call us today, and we will see what we can do for you.

What can I recycle?

For a quick reference guide go to our recycling services page to see specifics. As a general reference though, most household food containers (other than Styrofoam) can be recycled. With our single stream recycling service, all the recyclable items can be placed into one cart, taken to the curb, and we handle it from there! Currently, we do not accept larger items like glass doors, metal objects, etc. in our single stream recycling.

Will I get charged for items outside the container?

In many areas, we have an “Everything Goes” policy for regular trash items. As long as things are in bags or boxes, we will take it.

Are special services provided for the disabled or elderly?

Yes, in some areas we offer a “Backyard Pickup” option where, for an extra charge, the driver will drive to the customer’s garage or house, dump the cart, and leave again. However, our trucks are very large, and driveways that are narrow or have low hanging wires or tree limbs over the driveway make it very difficult for the driver to maneuver without the possibility of hitting the wires or tree limbs.

How do I set up my Regular Trash Service?

Call our office, and if you’re unsure what service you need, one of our customer service experts can help you decide. We have a variety of different sizes of containers as well as a variety of service frequency options. Our priority is finding the right trash service and best price for our valued customers! After you’ve decided what service you need, there are a few things we need from you.

  1. We need your basic contact information: Billing address, site address, phone number and email address.
  2. We need upfront payment for the rest of the quarter because we bill quarterly in advance. Your first payment will include a one-time delivery charge of the container. We bill quarterly in advance

Once we have that taken care of, we will schedule your delivery order, and add you to a regular route!

What happens on Holiday Weeks?

When a holiday lands on a week day, all residential routes for that day and the rest of the week are postponed one day. (example: if a holiday is on a Tuesday, Monday routes are run as usual on Monday, but routes normally scheduled on Tuesday get run on Wednesday, routes scheduled for Wednesday on Thursday, etc.)  Pickup times will normally be the same as usual.

Do you charge any additional fees/surcharges?

Generally, our monthly and quarterly rates are all inclusive rates.  All fees like service container rental, repairs, etc. are included in your regular trash service. The portable toilets have an optional damage waiver to protect you in the event of damage to the toilet like graffiti, or any damage to the portable toilet. If you do not want to pay the damage waiver, you can sign a form, that states that if anything happens to the toilet, you will pay for all the damages.

We figure in fuel surcharges and other fees like container rental, repairs, etc. into your regular charges.  There are no additional fees for regular trash services. The toilets also have the damage waver included in the pricing.

When should I put my cart out by the curb?

We encourage you to put it out the night before, since some drivers start early in the morning.  We don’t want to arrive at your location before you have the cart out.

What are the different ways that I can pay?

  1. Send a check in the mail with your invoice slip attached.
  2. Pay over the phone with a debit/credit card or your bank account number.
  3. Pay online. Set up an account, and sign in to pay online at any time.
  4. Set up AutoPay. This allows us to automatically charge your debit/credit card or a bank account the first business day of every bill cycle. You will still receive an invoice (by mail or email), but you won’t need to worry about the payment. If we have an email on file, we can even send you a copy of the receipt when the payment has been processed.

What do I do if I am going to be out of town and want to put my service on vacation?

If you will be gone over four weeks, we can put your services on a vacation status. This means that your trash will not be serviced during that time. You must call in and let us know before you leave on vacation.  We encourage you to also tell us right away when you’re going to be returning.  If you do this, you won’t need to remember to call and let us know when you want to change your account status back to regular service.

In order to switch your account status to vacation, call (620) 662-6561, and let us know when you are leaving, and returning. We do not give a credit for previous days or weeks before you call to change your account status to vacation.

Can I get a temporary container?

Absolutely!  In most of our service areas we offer temporary container rentals. We can do a one time delivery and removal of a container, either a commercial-sized container or a large roll-off container ranging from a 15 cubic yard to 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard containers.  Many of these can be delivered the same day if ordered before 9AM. However, a day’s notice is optimal to insure the delivery when it works best for you!

What size dumpsters do you have?

We have a wide range of dumpsters for both residential and commercial customers.  We have the standard 95 gallon poly cart for most residents and small businesses.  We also offer larger commercial-sized containers to both residents and commercial customers.  The smallest of these containers is the 2 cubic yard which is equivalent to 4 of the residential poly carts.  We have 3, 4, 6, and 8 cubic yard containers as well.  Whether you are a residential or commercial customer, we work hard to understand what you need, and provide those services for you!
